„Unleashing synergies, building bridges – the power of combining OPC UA and AutomationML“
The integration of AutomationML and OPC UA shows how interoperability in industrial automation can work even when using multiple (international IEC) standards. AutomationML focuses on plant engineering, while OPC UA creates a secure information hub from the sensor to the cloud. The combination supports the development of interoperable production systems. The presentation highlights concepts, use cases, advantages and practical (OSS) implementation of this integration. Challenges are addressed and the importance for industrial digital twins is highlighted. The cooperation between the two organizations – OPC Foundation and AutomationML e.V. – is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and can be a blueprint for the integrative usage of other standards, which shows how the strengths of the individual standards can be used in combination and that it does not have to be an „either-or“ situation.
